New Prospect Church Cemetery

New Prospect Baptist Church, located near center of Sec. 13, T62, R7W, in Lewis County, Missouri, was organized in 1874 at Benjamin schoolhouse by Rev. John A. Minter of Canton, Missouri, and he was the first pastor. It came into Wyaconda Baptist Association the same year. In 1875 a frame building was erected on land given by Oscar Durrett. Charter members were:

Mr. & Mrs. James Adams

Mr. & Mrs. J. Alderton
Mr. & Mrs. James Billups
Mr. & Mrs. John S. Hahn
Mrs. Oscar Durrett
Mr. & Mrs. Sam Ramsey

In 1942 the Wyaconda Association was instructed to sell the church building  as there were so few members and the church was inactive. The building was sold in October, 1942.

Uncle James Adams was the first person buried in the cemetery, in June, 1877.

James B. Adams, died June 2, 1877, aged 85 years, 3 months, 12 days
          Beloved in life, lamented in death.
