 Lackey - Leckey
Who would believe it? I never imagined seeing a photograph of Melinda Lackey Francis Hampton. Ronald Russell, a descendant of Levi Francis and Melinda Lackey, recently found a photograph of Melinda among his family heirlooms.

The following obituary for Melinda is riddled with errors. Even so, it is nice to have. Melinda is one of those family members whose burial was not in the cemetery records. The actual gravesite is unknown. Today the cemetery has a copy of this obituary. It is important to know that the cemetery is no longer known as Junction Cemetery. It is now called Maple Hill Cemetery.

SHE LEFT MANY DESCENDANTS.

Death of Mrs. Melinda Hampton, 95 Years Old, at Rosedale.

Mrs. Melinda Hampton, 95 years old, died yesterday afternoon of the grip at the home of her son, John A. Hampton, 16 Shawnee avenue, Rosedale. She leaves seven children and thirty grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Until last Saturday Mrs. Hampton, although feeble, was in good health. Sunday she was unable to leave her bed and she grew rapidly worse until her death. She leaves three sons and four daughters. Her daughters are Mrs. Amanda Fullington, Mexico, Mo.; Mrs. Martha Allen, Mexico, Mo.; Mrs. Melinda Allen, Fulton, Mo., and Mrs. Nancy C. Smith, Marshall, Tex. The sons are G. W. Hampton, Adrian, Mo., and J. A. Hampton of Rosedale. A third son, Oscar F. died a few weeks ago.

Mrs. Hampton's maiden name was Melinda M. Lecky. She was born in Jessamine county, Kentucky, August 27, 1808. When 16 years of age she was married to Oscar F. Hampton and the couple moved to Illinois. They afterward moved to Missouri, settling in Clark county, near where the present town of Winchester now stands. Mr. Hampton died twelve years ago after which Mrs. Hampton went to live with her son in Rosedale.

Not long ago the Hamptons held a family reunion. The grandmother sat at the head of a table, round which were gathered five generations.

Until the time of her death Mrs. Hampton spent her spare time making quilts which she gave to her friends, never being willing to sell one.

The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the home of her son. Burial in Junction cemetery.
